Customs authorities at the Sialkot International Airport successfully foiled an attempt to illegally smuggle live turtles/tortoises to Malaysia. A shipment consisting of 10 cartons was brought to the Air Freight Unit for clearance, declared as containing garments (primarily trousers). However, during physical inspection, customs officials discovered live turtles of small, medium, and large sizes hidden inside 5 of those cartons.

Deputy Collector of Customs, Syed Babar Ali Shah, spoke to the media and stated that this was a major operation, noting that these turtles are highly valuable in the international market.

According to sources, customs authorities have taken the clearing agent and the booking agent into custody, while a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the remaining suspects.
